Can you believe it has been sixty-seven years since this movie came out? It is is truly a classic in every way, including being on the top ten list of AFI’s best films of all time. For those of you who don’t remember being able to see this great movie from time to time on PBS or on your mother’s or grandmother’s old VHS player, you are in for a treat. A colourful, musical, literally jazzed up treat! This movie is set during the Jazz Age, and in a time when big, big changes were going on in Hollywood. Xanadu : Where time stops and the magic never ends.

Take all the trends from the year 1980, the emergence of punk rock, the non-stop roller skating, the kicky leg warmers, and the popularity of the world’s favourite Australian, and mix it together with a Big Band sound and a dancing actor whose hey day was the 1950s. Then add extras that came in on the cattle call from what must have been most every drag club in L.A., and add a dash of a few Solid Gold dancers. You get Xanadu, and you wonder why this movie was so popular, considering it was so mediocre.
