ELECELLERATION (el a sell er ay’ shun) n. The mistaken notion that the more you press an elevator button the faster it will arrive.
ELECELLERATION is a common thing seen in larger city skyscrapers and vacation hotspots with huge resort hotels. While it is logical to know that one only has to press that elevator button once to get the big box moving towards them, for some reason, the impatient part of our mind tells us that if we push the button, it will get to us faster. Don’t exactly know why this happens. Maybe we might be late for that meeting, or maybe the kids are tired of the long car or plane ride, and want to crash on the hotel beds, so regular adults, parents, businesspeople, and so on, will repeatedly press that button to make the car come to them. It happens in hospitals, too, any large building with multiple floors. It is like a minor addiction, sometimes understandable, except when on vacation. Not exactly sure what the rush is there, since this is the one time we should be slowing down. It’s not like the beach or the theme park is going anywhere, but when dealing with some overly excited children who want to hit the waves or ride rollercoasters and see their favourite characters live, maybe the elecelleration gear might be kicking in for the parents’ or grandparents sanity. Anyway, slow down, no matter where you have to be, it’s not going anywhere.
