It might be under our own feet, and there is a family that knows where to start looking, and our story begins with one inquisitive boy, Benjamin Franklin Gates (Hunter Gomez), hunting around in his grandfather’s attic in on a stormy night in 1974.

His grandfather, John Adams Gates (Christopher Plummer), tells Ben the tale of the the treasure and the Masons and the Knights Templar, and how it all falls together and how his family is involved. The have only one clue, “The secret lies with Charlotte”. The story is interrupted when Ben’s father, Patrick Gates (Jon Voight) berates his father for filling Ben’s head with stories, and that the treasure is only a myth, and that it is time for everyone to let it go. Ben is not going to heed that advice, and that leads to a team of new treasure hunters in our time hunting for Charlotte in the Arctic.

Based on the book from Tom Clancy, Patriot Games, this film is a solid hit in the action and intrigue department. We have all the right players to give audiences a ride that they are likely never to forget. You have international players with terrorists from the IRA and members of the CIA who Jack Ryan used to work for. It is evident early on what you are going to see happen in the film, it might even be telegraphed for you but you are not going to care. You are going to want to see how this one ends and will be on the edge of your seat no matter how many time you might watch it. Director Phillip Noyce and screenplay writers have done a good job translating the story to the screen even though several elements were changed from that of the book.

The Cold War has ended but not for everyone, especially Alec Trevelyan and General Arkady Grigorovich Ourumov. Both want to see the former Soviet Union pay for not keeping the status quo and they are going to use the old Cold War relique GoldenEye to make that a reality. GoldenEye is a satellite system that can trigger the effects of a nuclear blast anywhere that they would want. It doesn’t have the radiation effect of a bomb just the electromagnetic effect. When an electromagnetic pulse goes off it disrupts the electrical signals of everything that is around it. All cars stop, planes fall out of the sky and every single computer is fried and whiped clean of data.
