This film is a classic and will always stand the test of time. Heck when watching it today you can see parallels to the current economic situation in America. The film was made at a time when unemployment was high and the rich kept getting richer, seemingly at the expense of the poor. Some of the visuals you see in the film will make you laugh as you see it happening around you right now. It makes you wonder if Carpenter was a profit of what is to come with the way that this film unfolds. For anyone that likes the films from John Carpenter, they are going to love and cherish this one where everything is not what it seems. bobblogesture (bah blo JES cher) – n. The classroom activity of not knowing an answer but raising one’s hand anyway (after determining a sufficient number of other people have also raised their hands, thus reducing the likelihood of actually being called on).
Now that school has started, once students get past the tedious beginnings of a new year, learning schedules, remembering locker combinations, getting supply lists, etc., teachers might be seeing some bobblogestures once classes get into full swing. It does not matter if the class is 1st grade language arts or Senior year Advanced Physics, there are going to be many students doing bobblogestures in the attempt to make themselves look good in front of the teacher, hoping they at least get noticed for effort. Will those student who are just doing the bobblogesture get called on? While it might be nice to see them get busted for trying to fake their knowledge, it still won’t replace a good study hour or some memory training. So, kids, make sure you have a good idea of what you are getting into before you bobblogesture, because you may actually have to know the answer.
