Sarchasm – The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn’t get it.
There is a huge gulf of air that is in a sarchasm. Having a great, snappy wit is an amazing gift, and if used well, it can be a good insult, especially to those who are on the other side of the sarchasm. Those are the people who just don’t get it. To use the gift on those on the other side of the sarchasm is just a waste of time, but you might get someone who might be used to hearing such things, and that dim bulb over their head might brighten up a bit, but only long enough to make them angry. They might end up better for it. If they can bridge the width of a sarchasm, then the gift might be put to good use, and they might end up using it on someone else. Brightening the dim bulbs on the other side of the sarchasm might take some effort, but if making people more aware of a possible insult is a result of closing up a sarchasm, then maybe we should give it a try. As it’s been said before, “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”
