The year is 3028 A.D. and the world is in trouble. The planet has become so overcrowded that they have to look for someplace else to live. The only problem is there are no planets available for them so they have to think of something else. In looking for an answer they attracted the attention of the Drej because of the answer they found. The Drej are a race of energy beings that are a scourge of the universe and no one opposes them for if you do you are dead.
Professor Sam Tucker (Ron Perlman) has found the answer that humanity needs and just in time. He and the Titan project have built a ship that will make it so that humans can colonize the stars without the fear of the Drej. The Drej of course can not allow this and they want the entire planet and the whole race of humanity wiped out. They do not want the threat they cause to ever be or to be figured out and at the end of the film you see just why it is that the Drej feared man so much. It was the time of the crusades and the wold was at war with itself and with religion. Fear was rampant and priests and zealots saw Satan and witches around every single corner. If it was suspected you were a witch they would make sure that you confessed to it before they would kill you to save your soul. After consigning your body God and your soul to perdition they would then do rituals to make sure that your body stayed dead, not to rise again as a demon infested corpse. They wanted to make sure that your soul was safely with God and that your body would never again cause them trouble as they perceived that you did in life. The beginning of the film opens with such a scene but the rituals were not completed and we get to see the consequences of that. The unrated director’s cut of this film on Blu-Ray is done quite well and can be enjoyed by all that love fantasy films. I will say that I have never played the game Dungeon Siege but this film makes me want to play it and maybe that is the point. The film instills in the viewers a desire to see and experience more of what is seen in the film. Will I be disappointed when I play the game? Maybe, but one will never know till they do play it. For those that don’t care to play the game they will still have fun with this film. You have mindless beasts coming to life, sorcerers and magi battling each other and armies clashing over the lands that they live on. This film has everything that makes fantasy films so much fun to watch. You are able to feel the passion of the characters and don’t really care if it looks real or not. About the only thing that doesn’t look real are the gnoll type orkish things that are supposed to be mindless beasts. Well you could count the dryads as well if that is what they really are but do we guys even care when they are hanging out of trees with very little covering their skin? Really, that is what fantasy is for, FANTASY! Read more...(888 words, 123 images, estimated 3:33 mins reading time)
