Cheedle (chee’ dul) – n. The residue left on one’s fingertips after consuming a bag of Cheetos.
Who doesn’t love Cheetos or Cheese Doodles, or any variation thereof? These tasty bits of puffed corn snacks covered with powdery cheese flavour have been a staple in many packed lunches and at cookouts, ballgames, and other low-end social gatherings for as long as they have been around. They are a bit too salty, might be filled with dubious ingredients, but we consume them just the same, looking for something to fill the void when plain old potato chips or tortilla chips won’t do. The thing is, when we are done tearing through those salty, cheesy snacks, we are left with cheedle. Cheedle is that day-glo orange goo that is a combination of powdered cheese mixed slightly with a bit of one’s own saliva, thus adhering to one’s fingers until we either wash our hands, or lick the stuff off. Most everyone tends to go for the second option, not wanting to waste that stuff that made the Cheetos worth devouring in the first place. Yes, you can get them crunchy or baked, but no matter how the cheese puff is made, there is no escaping the cheedle that will accumulate on one’s hands as one consumes them. So, dig in at your next cookout, summer is almost over, but we won’t run out of cheesy snacks, because football season is right around the corner.
