Icision (ih sih’ zhun) – n. Delicate operation performed on Neapolitan-flavored ice cream in which one entire flavor is precisely and systematically removed.
With the warmer weather comes lots of ice cream consumption, but let’s face it, no matter what the weather is like outside, we are going to consume frozen desserts. There are those who buy Neapolitan ice cream in the hope of indulging in the tri-flavoured sweetness of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, but get taken aback when someone in the household does an icision. So much for that tri-flavoured sweetness. It seems pretty amazing that someone has the talent to create an icision. They must really love that one particular flavour, Why must they make an icision in the Neapolitan, when one can clearly get that one missing flavour on its own at the local grocery store? Clearly they are too cheap to run down and get it on their own, or they are wanting to show off their icision talents. I’ve never really seen this happen in my own experience. I do wonder what flavour tends to go missing most often when an icision occurs. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to never have to find out. Also, do icision makers do this with Spumoni?
