bobblogesture (bah blo JES cher) – n. The classroom activity of not knowing an answer but raising one’s hand anyway (after determining a sufficient number of other people have also raised their hands, thus reducing the likelihood of actually being called on).
Now that school has started, once students get past the tedious beginnings of a new year, learning schedules, remembering locker combinations, getting supply lists, etc., teachers might be seeing some bobblogestures once classes get into full swing. It does not matter if the class is 1st grade language arts or Senior year Advanced Physics, there are going to be many students doing bobblogestures in the attempt to make themselves look good in front of the teacher, hoping they at least get noticed for effort. Will those student who are just doing the bobblogesture get called on? While it might be nice to see them get busted for trying to fake their knowledge, it still won’t replace a good study hour or some memory training. So, kids, make sure you have a good idea of what you are getting into before you bobblogesture, because you may actually have to know the answer.
