Magnocartic (mag no KAR tik) – n. Any automobile that, when left unattended, attracts shopping carts.
It’s another mystery we’ve yet to unravel, like the place where we lose socks in the wash, or where ball-point pens disappear to, or where that room is in Heaven for every balloon that got away. Why are certain cars magnocartic? They aren’t of a particular make or model. They could be anything from a Cadillac De Ville to an old Ford pick-up truck to a Toyota Echo, but for some reason, shopping carts are attracted to it like bees to a rose bush or kids to a playground. Here’s hoping that the owners of these cars are apathetic to door dings, because those carts are not known for being delicate around anything, as a mother who has had her heels clipped too many times by a helpful child can tell you. Maybe it is not the same cars every time, but those car owners are going to have a rough time of it digging their vehicle out once they are done shopping. You can only hope that someday your own car does not receive the curse of being magnocartic, because it is random. Most likely a type of dark magic practiced by door-ding gnomes to make their work easier. Those fiendish little gimps!
