Noah (2014) The End Of The World Is Just The Beginning

Noah-2014-Movie-PosterWe all know the story of Noah, at least any and all that have even heard about the bible. Even those that have not know many of the great flood stories that are all around the world. They all have a very common theme of a man, his wife and a few children saving the world from massive flood waters. How do they save the world? They save it by building an ark for themselves and all the animals that they can find so that something will remain. This version of Noah is no different except it has biblical threads woven in and around it. That is what makes it so controversial, it is based on the biblical story.

Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters (2013)

Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-Monsters-2013-DVD-CoverWhen Rick Riordan says everything old is new again, he really means it. He has taken ancient myth and legend and combined it with post-modern society and brought us the Percy Jackson series of books. This second film from the series is a wonderful take on the second book of the series. I do hope this film franchise keeps running! We are once again brought into the story by the dream team of Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), a son of Posiden, Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), and their satyr guide, Grover (Brandon T. Jackson). Annabeth relives her past in a short tale of woe for another child of the most powerful of the Greek Gods, Zeus. As children trying to reach the protective camp, Annabeth, Grover, Luke, and another girl, Talia, were being chased by two cyclops. In the pursuit, Talia tried to stop the cyclops to let the other kids get away, but was defeated. Talia was a child of Zeus, and everyone thought she was killed, but there was a very faint life force left in her, and Zeus used this to create a new life for Talia, as a tree protecting the camp, just as Talia did for her young friends. Also, because of this incident, Annabeth developed a hatred for cyclops.

The Three Musketeers (2011)

This is one of the more interesting renditions of a classic tale that has been told so far. So what if it has flying ships and the fantastical works of Leonardo De Vinci and starts in Venice instead of France. It is a fun film to watch with some of the actors and actresses that we have come to love, playing characters that we wouldn’t expect them to play. You really wont care if your favorite is playing the bad guy or the bad girl, they are great in just about any film that they show up in.

It is a time of unrest where a young inexperienced King Louis XIII of France (Freddie Fox) is ruling a vast empire with his arranged bride Queen Anne (Juno Temple) who he doesn’t even know how to talk to. With no concept of leadership he has to rely on the guidance and advice from that of Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz). Richelieu takes full advantage of this and makes sure his guard and not the Musketeers are in charge of security. He wants nothing to get in the way of him ruling in the King’s and Queen’s place. He just has a few problems to get rid of first.

Hoot (2006)

A kids and family film that is fun to watch and might even get those same kids to think for a change. This award winning film is similar to after school specials that were once popular and kids would actually want to watch them. They always had a meaning or purpose or message that they wanted to convey to the viewers and Hoot is no different. The film, even though entertaining, is still about conservation and treating the land that we live on with respect and dignity. It also showcases just how greedy corporate America is and how they will do anything for money no matter who or what it hurts and no matter how many rules or laws they break in the process. The film shows that, I am not making that part up and kudos for the director (Wil Shriner) and writer of the novel (Carl Hiaasen ) showing that in the film. Even with the messages embedded into the film this is a wonderfully fun and beautiful film to watch as it takes place in some of the prettier places of Florida.

A fantastic fun ride for the whole family of an ancient Greek classic with a modern day twist. Percy Jackson & The Olympians : The Lightning Thief is based on the books written by Rick Riordan. It is the story of a young boy who finds out that he is the some of one of the three most powerful gods of Olympus. He is an awkward teen who would rather hide at the bottom of the pool then deal with what is going on around him. At least that is the way that he was till he is accused of stealing the weapon of Zeus (Sean Bean) and Hades (Steve Coogan) snatches his mother to the underworld. It is now up to Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), his junior protector Grover Underwood (Brandon T. Jackson) and his newest friend, the daughter of Athena (Melina Kanakaredes), Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario) to find the weapon and rescue his mother.
