Manglazette (mang la ZET) – n. The newspaper at the top of the stack that everyone passes over, believing the ones beneath have better or fresher news.
No matter where it comes from, the stand at the grocery or discount store, or maybe one of those vending machines outside a local coffeehouse, quick-service restaurant, or doughnut shoppe, for some reason, when you look at the top of the stack, you find the manglazette. There might not really be anything wrong with the manglazette from outside appearances, but it often gets passed over by newspaper consumers, like the heel on a loaf of sliced bread. The news is the same, but the manglazette might be water damaged, hit with a coffee spill, or overly inky, even though it came from the same press as all the other papers in the stack.
