RELED (ree led’) v. To reset all the digital clocks in the household following a power failure.
With spring weather comes stormy weather, and if the powerlines in your area tend to flicker with the wind or you have transformers that think they are actually lightning rods, the you know what it means to reled. Sometimes you might not have to reled on all the clocks in the house, but if you’ve got some that are overly sensitive to the slightest voltage drop, then releding will happen often. If you live in an area prone to lightning storms in the spring and summer, it might just be worth the losss of aggravation to go analog during the summer. After all, people used analog clocks for centuries before anything digital was ever even a concept. They were easy to set, just move that big hand around till it’s in the right place. Some folks like the glow of the digital clock that lets them know how much sleep they can get in before that alarm goes off at 5:30 A.M., but if one little power flicker makes that red glow become a flashing monster that reads “12:00” for hours on end, they most likely won’t be getting that sleep anyway. Good luck with the wacky summer weather this year. Here’s hoping you won’t have to reled too much.
