This film is a true tribute to 2000 AD and its 35 years of Dredd that they have given to the world. The film is gritty and a testament to the comic itself. This is no super hero with ulterior motives, this is a man with only one mission in life, the law. This film shows that but also shows that he does indeed have a heart. The year is 1812, Germany is occupied by the French during the Napoleonic Wars, and brothers Wilhelm (Matt Damon) and Jacob (Heath Ledger) Grimm are the Ghostbusters of the region, but for all the hags they have defeated, the demons they have vanquished, and the reputation they have gained, things are not as they seem. Jacob is a scholar,and knows of the tales of the region, and Wilhelm is a swindler, and uses Jacob’s knowledge of folklore to maintain a well-paid living. The go from town to town, using illusions, supposedly magical armour and artifacts to capture their undead and otherworldly prey. What the villagers they con do not know is that the creatures they capture and defeat are part of the illusion, and played by two other teammates in the Grimm business. Bunst (Richard Ridings) is the roadie, and does the work with the mechanics of the process. Hidlick (Mackenzie Crook) often plays the part of the creature they have been sent to capture. Before the Decent there was The Cave, a cave that will willingly rip your heart out and then change you in ways that you never thought possible. All those that have entered the cave seldom ever return, that is till now! The Cave is a horror film the way it should be, it is suspenseful with the right amount of pop and not a lot of blood. You don’t need blood to be scared and this film proves that. Anyone who thinks this film is not a trilling and suspenseful horror film must be in a coma.
In the past the cave was guarded by monks and before that demons were fought to keep the creatures at bay. Now the monks are gone and there is no one to stop stupid cave divers from going places that they should not. The cave is infested and will change anything and everything that comes in to disturb what is there. There is an ancient evil living there and should not be let out. In the beginning of the film we find some ex military men wanting a thrill to go cave diving where no one has went before. They want a thrill and what they get instead is death and disfigurement.
