Crayolla (kray oh’ lee uh) – n. The area on the refrigerator where kindergarten drawings are displayed.
So, it is finally here, the most wonderful time of the year, so get ready to start displaying lots of yuletide refrigerator art in the crayolla. Many kids will be bringing home lots of pictures of disproportionally drawn Santas, snowmen, reindeer, and other Northern European winter icons. There will be huge snowflakes covering the crayolla, as well, and some things made of felt, crafting bells, and construction paper. None of this stuff is small enough to fit on the tree, and sometimes it might overflow the crayolla, and actually end up on the kitchen walls. Thankfully, you only have to keep it there until the holidays end, and come February 1st, you will get a whole new barrage of crayolla art in the form of cupids and hearts on paper doilies. Holidays are just so much fun! Your crayolla never really stays empty so long as there is elementary school art to display. Even off season you might get pictures of superheroes, animals, and aliens, depending on what your kids are into. Make sure to keep those crayons sharpened, kids. Your local art gallery needs you.
