Sniglet Of The DayFlintstep (flint’ step) – v. To wind up one’s feet before running away in fear. Common among cartoon characters.

The flintstep was a creation that came into light way before Fred and Wilma were even considered. Definitely an art technique created by the team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera back in their early Tom and Jerry days, the flintstep became a common move for many more characters, from many more studios to use, and it it entertained us for decades of Saturday mornings. From cute, fat little brown mice to spacemen living in the far, and overly automated future, running from the bad guy never goes out of style, and we laughed as Jerry, Scooby, The Pink Panther, Fat Albert, Fred, and/or George wound up their feet for a fast getaway. Not having seen many recent cartoons these days lately, I’m not sure if the flintstep is still being used these days, as animated shows are so much more readily available, but not nearly as much fun as they used to be. The flintstep might be going the way of the dinosaurs and Slate Industries.
