We seem to be getting hit with lots of hidden object mystery games these days, and this time we are promised an adventure in a group of uncharted islands that might just be a society within the Bermuda Triangle. I was all up for this, since I had not seen anything like this since I watched The Fantastic Journey. I was rather disappointed in Hidden Expedition: The Uncharted Islands Collector’s Edition. Sure there were people from different time periods in there, kids that seemed like they were Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, but they were from the 1950s. There were odd little bio-luminescent animals that looked very much like glowing neeker-breekers from The Lord of the Rings Online, and other extinct animals like dodo birds. As in most of these kinds of games, I found myself looking for bits and pieces of junk to make things work, or for clues on how to make something work. There were not many logic puzzles in this game, but there was lots of running back and forth to put things together and do my best to overthrow some pirate known as “Undertow” whom owns a ship that looked like it might have been stolen from Captain Nemo, had Nemo been building surface-running ships. I found it odd that we as players get thrown into these situations without knowing where we might be going, or given tasks by NPCs who clearly know more about what is going on than we do. There are many great hidden object mystery games out there you can try, but Hidden Expedition: The Uncharted Islands Collector’s Edition really is not one of them.
