This marks the 3rd open beta weekend for Guild Wars 2. This is the last one that they are going to be having before they release the entire game to the public on August 28 of this year. For those that pre-purchased the game, they will get a 3 day head start. It is sure to be one hell of a week when it is released. As to this weekend all characters were wiped and everyone is making new characters. What makes it even more special is that we can now make Sylvari and Asura characters.
Here below is a video of a character being created, a Sylvari Ranger. The video shows all of the steps that you take when you are creating a character. I have added some narration to the video so you know what is going on. You will also hear the games music as well so you know what to expect when you finally create your own character. Just so you know, each option that you choose will change the video that you get to see after character creation. You determine what it is that you are going to see as you choose your characters traits and pick their life choices. So your video might not be like the one that you see here because of that fact. I think people have really bad attitudes. Just in general. Which is funny because most of the time I have a really bad attitude. So really, I’m an expert on bad attitudes. Which is why I think a lot of the forum posters, and blog posts about overflow servers are short-sighted and cranky. Do I think it’s a perfect system? No, but I think it’s better than waiting in a queue and not playing at all, and that should be the main thought on everyone’s mind, but it isn’t.
Just to explain, an overflow server is the Guild Wars 2 solution to crowded servers. When a zone becomes full, a second copy of that zone is produced and those wishing to log in and, instead of being sent to a login screen with a timer, you are sent to the copy and allowed to play. This weekend started the first public beta weekend with no NDA and what a weekend it is starting out to be. So far things look very polished though we are only able to play Norn, Human or Char at least on the world that I chose to play. I can not say what the other ones will or would allow but I am sure that they will be testing everything out thoroughly as the beta events go on.
Starting I took a look at the various races that were open and they are cute as can be on the females and rather hansom for the males. You are able to control all the various aspects of your characters physical appearance. You can control the heights, the weight as well as the various parts of the body. Where you see the most sliders are that of the face. You have three sections for those, you have the eyes, the nose and the mouth and chin. Each giving you various different options so that you can make a character that is uniquely your own. I literally spent 30 minutes just deciding how I wanted my toon to look. Some would want to jump right in but I wanted to see all the options that were available for character creation. Read more...(427 words, 27 images, estimated 1:42 mins reading time)
Games on Net just recently had an article about the humans in the most hotly-anticipated MMO’s of the year Guild Wars 2. While we know that any of the races in this new game are going to be hot this interview they did with ArenaNet was solely about the humans. The article is great but the video that went with it was even better. I would highly recommend downloading the full sized version so that you are able to truly appreciate the scope and grandeur that is being build by ArenaNet and the Guild Wars 2 team.
