Shrek Forever After is the fourth in the Dreamworks Shrek movie franchise. Shrek (Mike Myers) is an ogre who used to have a stinky swamp all to himself, and did what ogres do best. Scare peasants, make his stinky swamp even stinkier, and enjoy all the vermin that shared his space. Now, after settling down with his ogre princess, Fiona (Cameron Diaz), he feels that he’s become to domesticated. His daily life has become one repeated day after another, and wedded bliss is not so blissful when there are three little stinkers to take care of. His best friend, Donkey, has settled down, too, and brings his little donkey/dragon kids in to play with the little ogres. The once peaceful stinky swamp is not very peaceful, but even more stinky. Shrek is growing bored with his life, and at his children’s first birthday party, he gets angry, and bolts. He comes to the shady side of town, a place filled with evil witches and a vampire here or there. Here he meets with Rumpelstiltskin, and the weaselly gnomish creature has come up a whole new kind of contract to keep those whom use his magick locked into their contracts. This Rumpelstiltskin makes the Brothers Grimm version look like a fairy princess. From there Shrek Forever After takes on a variation on the theme of It’s a Wonderful Life, but in Shrek’s world it is very different. His princess is now a freedom fighter, and she has a band of ogres to back her up as she attempts to take Far Far Away back from the new king, Rumpelstiltskin. Rumpelstiltskin took the kingdom from King Harold (John Cleese) when an earlier contract went awry. Rumpelstiltskin makes most any modern day lawyer look pretty nice. King Rumpelstiltskin has an army of partying evil witches as his protectors, and they will do about anything for him out of loyalty.
