Damnation Alley is based, loosely, on a book of the same name by Roger Zelazny. The film version is director by Jack Smight and stars the talents of Jan-Michael Vincent, George Peppard and Dominique Sanda. It was a cutting edge Sci-Fi film of the day with lots of special effects and model work being used in the film. It is a piece of film history that should never ever go away. It needs to be preserved and cherished for generations to come. If a remake is ever made I hope it is truer to the book but you know how film makers are.
Damnation Alley takes place after the world has been ravaged by a nuclear holocaust and there just do not seem to be any survivors left. When the movie starts you are in the bunker of a missile silo and the order has been give to launch. You get to see just how stupid man is to blow up the world and rain missiles everywhere. Remember this takes place during the cold war and a missile launch from Russia was always on everyone’s mind, so it is definitely a sign of those times and a glimpse at the mentality that everyone was thinking then.
