Something is coming out of Eastern Europe, and it just keeps getting better and better. Oh, it’s those hidden object mystery games from Elephant Games! Particular focus is on the Surface series. The first game, Surface: Mystery of Another World had me pretty well ensnared with its clear graphics and intriguing storyline from the beginning, but this new game just blows that one away.

Surface: The Soaring City Collector’s Edition shows and tells us how much more improved a game developer can become over the years, and with each new game in this series, they keep getting better. Still, the voice dubbing is needing some polish in the live action sequences, but there are many live action sequences. This game also has a art deco period aviation backdrop that makes one think of great movies and stories set in the 20s and 30s like Hugo, Chicago, and The Great Gatsby.

I have really not come across a hidden object mystery from Elephant Games I did not like. They are definitely hold the platinum standard when it comes to HOMs. I had been looking forward to this game for some time, and so when I saw that the demo was out, I downloaded it then and there, at 4 A.M. in the morning, when I should have been reading the headlines at Slate Magazine. I would have to wait until afternoon to play the game, and I was elated and disappointed at the same time.

Elephant Games seems to be flooding the casual games sites with more and more of these Hidden Object Mysteries, and this time, those devs from Eastern Europe are taking on a trip to what might be the Black Forest and spinning us about in a tale dealing with…. werewolves! Grim Tales: The Legacy Collector’s Edition takes a trendy subject and gives it an interactive and classic spin. We start off as a woman heading to her sister’s son’s christening, and of course, our car skids and crashes on a stormy road, where have we seen this before? On the upside, we crashed right outside of our sister’s… castle?

Mystery Trackers: Black Isle

It looks like Elephant Games has another hit on its hands with Mystery Trackers: Black Isle. This is another challenging hidden object mystery that mixes live action footage with mind bending puzzles and some great graphics.

It seems that the developers are getting better with the sound mixing, as the voice-overs are far better in synch than they were in Surface: Mystery of Another World Collector’s Edition, which was an amazing game in its own right. That is another game for another weekend, though, and it’s time Musings gave you some insight into Mystery Trackers: Black Isle.
