The Three Musketeers (2011)

This is one of the more interesting renditions of a classic tale that has been told so far. So what if it has flying ships and the fantastical works of Leonardo De Vinci and starts in Venice instead of France. It is a fun film to watch with some of the actors and actresses that we have come to love, playing characters that we wouldn’t expect them to play. You really wont care if your favorite is playing the bad guy or the bad girl, they are great in just about any film that they show up in.

It is a time of unrest where a young inexperienced King Louis XIII of France (Freddie Fox) is ruling a vast empire with his arranged bride Queen Anne (Juno Temple) who he doesn’t even know how to talk to. With no concept of leadership he has to rely on the guidance and advice from that of Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz). Richelieu takes full advantage of this and makes sure his guard and not the Musketeers are in charge of security. He wants nothing to get in the way of him ruling in the King’s and Queen’s place. He just has a few problems to get rid of first.

Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet (2011)

In my youth I heard one or two of radio episodes for The Green Hornet and saw a few of the TV episodes as well. I don’t remember them being quite as corny as the Seth Rogen’s version at all. This film is more of a action hero comedy then say Batman or Superman or even Fantastic 4, which was funny in spots. This film was a rolling ball of gags, prat falls and egos the size of the moon. This film should have been called “How Kato Puts Up With Idiots”, that would have been a more appropriate name and more reflective of what was going on. Don’t get me wrong, the film was fun and worth watching over again and maybe a few more times after that but it is in no way a serious hero film at all. Keep that in mind as you watch the film and you will have more fun and be able to better appreciate the cast and content that is presented.
