Caterpallor – (n.) The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you’re eating.
Summer, summer fruits, it wouldn’t be summer without them…. but then there can be complications when it comes to indulging in all the cool, fruity sweetness. Sometimes, some bugs can get past the inspectors, and that grade A fancy plum, peach, nectarine, etc. might not be so fancy. It’s bad enough to find a larvae in the fruit you are eating, but when you find half of a larvae, that’s when you get the caterpallor, because, even though you don’t want to admit it, you know exactly where the other half is. Even though it is Halloween/Samhain ritual, home fruit inspection really should be done all year long to avoid finding such little invaders in your foods, and maybe with some vegetables, too. If a grub can hide in an apple, they can also hide in a squash or even an ear of corn, though most people do not eat some of these things raw, so that grub will be cooked, but it is good to know that there won’t be any grubs in your food. So, be careful before you dig into those juicy summer fruits. The nausea you prevent may be your own.
