Pirates of New Horizons: Planet Buster

Fun Factor:★★☆☆☆

While this Match 3 game is a little different, it did not make it any less boring. It had all the bells and whistles of most any 80s arcade game, but the game play itself was lacking in challenge at first, but as your levels went up, your timer went down. Having bombs and using multiple pops did boost your score. You had to reach a certain number before time was up to get to the next level. Between levels were optional challenge puzzles where one would make one move in hopes the whole puzzle would collapse in on itself, but I would never stay for any than three tries on these.

While this game is colourful and loud, it does not keep me addicted to it like Heroes of Kalevala has for hours at a time, nor do I have a yearning to try it again. There are many match 3 games I have enjoyed far more than this one, and others I’ve yet to try.

Season Match

Fun Factor:★★★☆☆

After yesterday’s review of Season Match: Curse of the Witch Crow, I mentioned that I would taking a look at its prequels, and so here are my reflections on the first game in the series, Season Match. The premise of this match 3 game is that the Snow Queen has broken her magic mirror, and thus sets the weather in her fairy-tale realm a bit out of balance. It is up to us, as the players to do what it take to find the shards and help the other ladies in charge of the seasons bring the magic mirror back together and make the climate temperate again.

Cradle of Rome 2

Fun Factor:★★★★★

A fun match three game that is also full of puzzles and even some city building elements. The game starts out with the story of Romulus and Remus, twins that we suckled by a wolf when they washed ashore. The story then shows how the twins were found by a shepherd and then raised as his own and trained how to fight and given an education. When they were older, 20 years later, they decide that they are going to build a grand city on the 7 hills that Rome sites on today. They don’t have anything to work with so it is up to you to make sure that they have the materials to start their grand city with.
