“Once upon a time warp in deep space, the struggle between the nice & the rotten goes on…” starts the rolling introduction to this pop culture spoof on mainstream sci-fi movies, from Star Wars to Planet of the Apes and even Heavy Metal, no one is safe! Featuring a galaxy of stars and veterans from many of the movies in the Mel Brooks franchise, this never movie never ceases to keep up from laughing from beginning to end. Mel Brooks stars as the bumbling President Skroob of planet Spaceballs, as well as the wise alien sage, Yogurt. Skroob and his incompetent henchmen, Colonel Sandurz (George Wyner) and Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). The people of Spaceballs have polluted their air so heavily that they intend to invade the beautiful, peaceful planet of Druidia to steal their fresh air. The thing is, Druidia has its atmosphere locked down, so the Spaceballs are going to have to do something seriously treacherous to get them to open the sky shield. Read more... The year is 3028 A.D. and the world is in trouble. The planet has become so overcrowded that they have to look for someplace else to live. The only problem is there are no planets available for them so they have to think of something else. In looking for an answer they attracted the attention of the Drej because of the answer they found. The Drej are a race of energy beings that are a scourge of the universe and no one opposes them for if you do you are dead.
Professor Sam Tucker (Ron Perlman) has found the answer that humanity needs and just in time. He and the Titan project have built a ship that will make it so that humans can colonize the stars without the fear of the Drej. The Drej of course can not allow this and they want the entire planet and the whole race of humanity wiped out. They do not want the threat they cause to ever be or to be figured out and at the end of the film you see just why it is that the Drej feared man so much. In the mean time though Earth has to be evacuated before the Drej get there but as everything great, it is running behind schedule and the Drej get to earth before everyone is able to leave. ID4 is brilliant in its use of models, special effects and a great star studded cast. It is realistic in that it doesn’t go overboard with crazy stuff that would never work with our technology as it is now. The film is smart, entertaining and full of explosions that are sure to appeal to audiences young and old all over the world. This film has something for everyone unless you just hate Will Smith and science fiction films. We get to see some of the best acting but unfortunately some of the cliche one liners that are stuck to some actors. That aside we get a great performance and this was one hell of a big screen debut for Will Smith. No longer the slacker rapper but now a Hollywood star that shines. Read more... Almost everyone knows who Casper the friendly ghost is. The child ghost that desperately wants a friend and to not be the play thing of his uncles Fatso, Stinky and Stretch. They look after him in the afterlife and love to scare anyone that might come around. Casper will do just about anything to get a friend of his own, to be able to laugh and play with someone his own age, a 12 year old that just wants to have fun. This film takes us on a journey of discovery and fun to show us all about Casper and to what lengths her will go to to get what he wants. This is a fun loving film that the whole family can enjoy. Casper is one of those films that you love when you see it but fades from your memory as time goes on. Its sad to say that with all that keeps going on in the world that all family films are that way and we just need to be reminded just how good the film was. Images and words from the films to make us remember them all over again and give us a desire to see them once again.
