Dumbification – n. the act of using media to turn ordinary people into mindless, right-wing drones and must have it all no matter how stupid it is consumers.
There is a process going on lately, from communication centers of North America. From New York to Washington to Atlanta to L.A. Even Vancouver and Toronto have gotten into the act, as have Boston and…. well just about anywhere a team of scriptwriters or API news tickers can have access to a national feed to feed us either stuff we would not really care about, or a vat of poisonous opinions that have nothing to do with fact, fed to us by the Tea Party and its media vehicle, Fox News, to take us back to the 1950s no, make that, 1830s. I’m not sure if that is where they are wanting to take us, because there was no T.V. in the 1830s, but there were lots of things back then they loved. Slavery, sexism, racism, and way too much national pride. Maybe they are getting close to what they want. Rich white males are still ruling over everything.
Well, that’s one direction dumbification can take us. The other direction takes the minds of the young and fills them with badly scripted animated shows via the kids channels that are far from entertaining, but a great vehicle to push plush pink ponies and die cast cars. Then there is the nighttime line-up of stupid college programming made for pretty much a fratboy audience, and they call this a cartoon channel? T.V. to drink beer by, or maybe this is just another way to get them to buy beer.
Then there is the music, the dancing, the craziness, the obsession with all those talent competitions. Sure, variety shows were great, and maybe they might be overdue for a comeback, but when mainstream news dips into these competitions for some fluff to balance out all the hype that has been given to us by other media outlets, and radio, you guys do this, too, we need to find a way to stop the dumbification of North America. If not, we might turn out to be what exactly what these guys are trying to avoid.
