It is good to see a classic in a new light, and Mark Twain’s fun tale of time travel and fantasy has taken on another interactive turn in New Yankee in King Arthur’s Court 2. We still have Sir John working as a protector for the king, making sure trolls leave the workers and subjects alone while building projects out in the kingdom, but this time, Sir John has some help.
His girlfriend from Connecticut, Mary, has found her way to John, and has a talent for wizardry. She has been working with Merlin, and now uses practical magic to help John with his tasks and keep the workers safe and stop the troll invasions. While this concept works well as maybe a movie script, as a game, it could have been better done. It seems you have to plan out a strategy to keep the trolls away and complete all your tasks in allotted amount of time, but this time never seems to be enough. I cannot remember if there was a relaxed , no time version of this game to play, but I do know I would have had a better time with this game if I had chosen it.
If you are in the mood for the story of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court you can find many variations, even a Looney Tunes version, Knight-mare Hare, starring Bug Bunny. You would have more fun with them than I did with this game, but if you like builders and the concept, have at it. The original is far better than the sequel.
