The Mummy features the talents of Actors: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Kevin J. O’Connor and directed by Stephen Sommers. In 1999 this was one of the best horror films of the year and still is some of the best work from all the actors involved. It was riveting, suspenseful, action packed and even has romance for not only the heroes but the villain as well. This is a definite must see film and you should make sure to have a copy sitting on your DVD or Blu-Ray shelf as you will want to watch it more then once or more.
The film starts in ancient Egypt with Anck-Su-Namun, the mistress of Pharaoh Seti I, going to have a tryst with the high priest Imhotep, played by Arnold Vosloo. The Pharaoh finds them together and they kill him which seals their fate and damnation. We get to see just what and how they, the Medjai, damn Imhotep and his priests and his burial alive. As the movie says, “Death is but the beginning” and that is so true for this film. Imhotep is now undead and trying to escape as the Medjai try to make sure that does not happen. Fast forward to after WWI and we see one of our heroes fighting against the nomads of the desert with his French Foreign Legion unit at the gates of Hamunaptra, the city of the dead and supposed resting place of all the gold of Egypt.
This film is full of mystery, intrigue and romance as a team of archeologists try and excavate the ruins of Hamunaptra after being guided there by the 2 remaining survivors of the Foreign Legion unit that was there last. Other then the Medjai they are the only ones that know the cities location, one wants to profit from it and the other is showing the way to repay being saved from hanging to death in a Cairo prison. Along the way to the city of the dead they are hunted by the Magi to keep the city and the mummy safe from being resurrected. Rick O’Connell played by Brendan Fraser is resourceful enough to make sure that the group succeeds in reaching the city despite the Medjai and keeps them from being killed by the Medjai even after they are at the city.
Since the movie is called The Mummy we know that they do indeed wake the mummy of Imhotep and then have to find a way to deal with him. The only way that they are able to do this is with the ancient books of Amun-ra and Anubis Book of the Dead. With their courage and knowledge of ancient Egyptian writings and language they are able to prevail. You will just have to see the film so that you can really enjoy all that it has to offer. I know you will enjoy it as much as we have.
