One of the most iconic buildings in the world, this game has you building the Eiffel Tower itself for the worlds fair in 19th century Paris. You get to see and move through the streets in a game where you have to get the job on time and manage the resources to be able to do it. Each level gives you an increasing challenge and things to do before you are able to move on. Interestingly enough it actually has you collecting the raw materials in an almost real world way. As in the real world, once the items are made you have to ship them out to the site for construction. You are the one in charge of it all in Monument Builder: Eiffel Tower
At first the game seems a bit confusing and you will be extremely glad of the annoying popups that are in the fist couple of levels. Those popups will tell you exactly what it is that you need to do so that you are able to finish the level. The first one is quite easy and can be done in under 2 minutes in fact. That is definitely not a normal level and not a gage of how the other levels are in length. Each level has you doing more things and you have time working against you all the way. In some levels you even have to build the plants and mills that are going to be used or you just are not going to get the job done. Once you get the hang of it the game becomes quite addictive and feel a bit down when the level is done.
One of the fun things to do and many times needed just to complete the level is the construction of the paths, streets and avenues. Many of them are broken and the only way you are able to get the goods to your office is to repair them. There are even areas of the city that are so run down that you have to tear down old buildings and clear rubble to get the good to the office. To help you get all this done you are able to hire workers but to train each one you need gold. If you don’t have gold then you have to build a bank that will act as a gold reserve in much the same way as a mine or trees. With trees, though, you have to send workers to chop those down. When ever a material is ready for use you just click on the cart and away it goes to either be delivered to your construction office or to be sent to the site where the Eiffel Tower is being constructed.
As you proceed through the game you can see the progress that you are responsible for on the Eiffel Tower. It is right there on the game map and as each level is finished you get to see a bit more of the tower take shape. You will also see a representation of what it is that you are going to be doing on each level. If it is roads that need built then that is what you will see. If it is industries that need constructed you will see those as well. The game is very visual in showing you all that is needed to get the job done and what you are working with actually look like it should, even in its simplified representation. So not only is the game fun but it also gives you a bit of history along the way about the fair and the Eiffel Tower itself.
