I did a review for Jewel Quest: The Sleepless Star close to a year ago, and we have been treated with a new adventure quest this season with Jewel Quest: The Sapphire Dragon. It is a similar set up, with different kinds of match 3 puzzles that are used to take us further along in a story of adventurers risking life and finding peril. This time we are in the Himalayas with a group of modern day explorers in search of a fabled Shangri-la type city. As the group is settling in at an outpost, the team leaders, Raj and Ali, twin brother and sister anthropologists are getting the team set for the trek. We have a tech support dude, a Russian security expert, and an old-school tracker, and an ex-hippie language expert. Raj is kidnapped by thugs, but manages to escape by stealing their plan, and finds the City of The Sapphire Dragon.

Well, this is all well and good for Raj, except that he can’t get back down the mountains to tell his sister and teammates about what he has found. Cut to Ali and the team. We are going to help them get to Raj through a series of match 3 puzzles in different varieties, and with each puzzle solved, a team member will gain experience points, which in turn opens up new tools to get through the puzzles quicker. This story keeps you with the game, since Match 3 Puzzle games are pretty common, but having a gripping story to go along with them makes them so much more enjoyable. I do hope the devs didn’t lose the script, since this tale would make a great Saturday night Syfy movie. We’ll see what happens.
