Imagine if you will that you could live the same day over and over again without end. Sounds pretty good, right? What if that day you have to live over and over is what you feel is your worst day ever, that is what this move looks at. Groundhog Day is directed by Harold Ramis and stars Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliott in this comedy about a reporters life gone all wrong.
Phil is a news reporter that has been given the job of reporting on whither or not Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog, will see his shadow or not. Phil could care less, he hates his life, he hates his job and he hates the rat, the ground hog, that is stealing his spotlight. Phil also hates the fact that he can’t get into the pants of his coworker Rita, his producer. To make maters worse there is a snow storm coming and now he can’t even get out of town.
So, the next morning Phil wakes up to get the hell out of town but it is still the same day. Did he dream it all, did he hit his head, did he die and go to hell? No, he is now living the same day over and over and we really don’t know just how long it is. We do know that he is able to master several things and save just about everyone in the town from one calamity or another. Phil finds peace within himself which allows him to find that he does indeed love Rita.
This is a film for star crossed lovers and those that just love to curl up to those that they love to watch a film. While this does have a romantic quality to it I doubt any film that has Bill Murray in it will ever be called a romantic comedy, but this one does come close. So grab your popcorn and fav throw and turn down the heat and watch this great wintery film.
