Cradle of Rome was the first in this series produced by Avem Games back in 2007, and so far there have been three more games added to the series. While I do not like this original game nearly as much as Cradle of Persia, it is still cute and charming for a match 3 game based on empire building.
So we are now on the seven hills of what will become the great Roman Empire, and to get from this little town to one of the superpowers of the ancient world, we have some items to collect in order to build some stuff. We’ll build farms and granaries, bakeries and taverns, vineyards and military training forts. To do this, we must have basic items. Natural resources, food, a little divine magic, and lots and lots of cash, all which we will be collecting in a match 3 grid. The more items you match and collect, the faster your can build your town, and be on your way to becoming Caesar. There a little tools to help along the way, like hammers and lightning bolts. This is a fun, quick-paced game, and you’ll really enjoy learning about exactly what you are building as they are placed in your city-building screen. One drawback is that you cannot place the buildings down yourself like you would in the old Sierra Caesar games, but that’s a review for a different time.
