MV5BMTU1ODU2NzczMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzE0NzUxMQ@@._V1_SY317_CR1,0,214,317_AL_“The first piece made him the strongest fighter on Earth. The final piece will make him a God.” That’s the tagline, and it sets up the plot in one sentence. This anime movie features the characters from the well-loved Neo-Geo fighting arcade game, Fatal Fury. Everyone is here, Terry and Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi,
Mai Shiranui, Kim Kaphwan, and an appearance by the late Lily McGuire. Our heroes are about to go on an adventure to stop a young man bent on revenge from those that had done his family wrong. Laocorn Gaudeamus and his sister, Sulia, are descendants of a great warrior from the Greek isle of Rodos (Rhodes), Gaudeamus. Laocorn and Sulia’s father was murdered by a business colleague, and Laocorn had been bent on revenge ever since.

The story opens at the ruins of Alexandria, where Cheng Sinzan and his team are searching for pieces of the Armor of Mars. After they find a shinguard, Laocaorn shows up with his three henchmen. They are people with elemental powers. Jamin controls fire, Panni controls water, and Hauer, whom controls air.

The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey

The-Hobbit-An-Unexpected-Journey-Movie-PosterFrom the smallest beginnings come the greatest legends. Things are pretty small where Bilbo Baggins comes from. He is a hobbit of means, content to live in Bag End, tend his garden, smoke his pipeweed, and enjoy a good ale down at The Green Dragon Inn. His life is simple, and it just can’t get any better, but one day his lineage catches up with him. Being of the line of Took, there is a mysterious lady that once became the mate of one Bilbo’s ancestors, and through this the great wizard Gandalf, thinks Bilbo might have the burgling talents to help a group of dwarves in their quest to regain their old home, in the city of Erebor with the Lonely Mountain. It just so happens that the city is inhabited by the nastiest of dragons, Smaug.

The Iron Giant: It came from outer space!

The-Iron-Giant-1999-Cover-ArtThere were many great animated films in the 1990s, but this has to be one of the best. Set during the Cold War, at the time of the launch of Sputnik and rampant McCarthyism, there was much for Americans to fear, especially things that came from unknown sources. In the winter of 1957, one great mystery came to a small town in Maine. Where it came from, we do not know, but this hulking robot had the capacity to learn from one young boy, Hogarth Hughes, about life and death, compassion and fear, and so much more.

Hogarth is a pretty self-sufficient kid. His widowed mother works at a local diner as a waitress, and is often asked to work extra shift. His late father was a test pilot in the Air Force, so science is always on Hogarth’s mind, but when a giant robot falls from the sky one night when Hogarth is watching scary movies by himself, he has to go investigate. He grabs his BB gun, but what he encounters is far beyond belief. After some misadventures, Hogarth and the Iron Giant become friends, and with the help of a local beatnik artist, they keep the secret from the town until a government agent shows up.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman – He’s leaving his mark on history.

Mr-Peabody-and-Sherman-2014-Movie-PosterIf you were lucky enough to catch any of the short cartoons made back in the 60s by Jay Ward Productions, like Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-right, and various other iconic titles from the day, then you must have been looking forward to seeing Mr. Peabody in his own full length film, because he is far more interesting than Underdog. We learn about Mr. Peabody from the source, and how he became such a force of nature. This dog is a brainiac. A brilliant scientist, philosopher, athlete, and gourmand, there is pretty much nothing he can’t do, except find a family of his own. Things changed for him when he discovered a foundling child in a NYC alleyway. This child would become his adopted son, Sherman.

Night-At-The-Musium-Smithsonian-2009-DVD-Cover When the lights go off the battle is on! So it goes with the second installment of the tale of Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a night guard for the Museum of Natural History in NYC, or so it seems. Things have taken off for Larry as he is now an inventor, and is making a big name fore himself in the infomercial game. He is pushing small items that have some practical uses, and is becoming quite successful. One day, he makes his way to the museum to see his nighttime friends, only to learn that the place is going high tech with electronic interactive exhibits, and that some of the older pieces are being sent to Washington D.C. They are to be stored at the Federal Archives at the Smithsonian Institute.
