This stars Mark Singer and Tonya Roberts with Ripp Torn as the evil sinister high priest of some cult. I forgot just how fun this movie really was, it had been so many years since I had seen it. I am so glad I got to see it yet again and will definitely be keeping a copy in my fantasy section on my DVD and Blu-ray shelves.
If truth be told this film was actually better then that of Conan the Barbarian, it just didn’t get as much press or as much funding but by and large it was a better film. It had a more coherent plot, more real characters and the only super human capability the lead character had was that of talking to animals and being able to see through their eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Conan films but this one is just so much fun to watch.
In some ways it was the animals of the film that were the real stars and they are how the story kept unfolding, just love Kodo and Podo, they are so darned cute. They first show up trying to steal Dar’s belongings and then from there they just do everything possible to stay in trouble. It is what makes them so adorable.
If you love fantasy films then you will appreciate this film for sure. Ladies if you like muscles and seeing lots of them Mark Singer and his co-stars are always bare chested and oiled up and down to show off all their surfer muscles. Guys, the skirts in this film are so short that they are just tails on a shirt with legs that go all the way up. This is just one hell of a fun film to watch and I can’t wait to watch the next films in the Beastmaster series.
