Visually boring and spectacular NOT! I know Syfy has limited budgets on these movies but this was almost as bad asSyFy Original : Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (2011), almost. I think the budget was way less though. Come on, the interior of spaceships that are made of plastic pallets and scrap aluminum? Get real guys and what is up with the chandelier spaceship. (I wonder if they will sell it as one) It looks like it should be in some disco dance hall instead of “stuck” over the skies of Los Angeles. Gaming companies make things look more real and they don’t get the budgets that you do for that one stupid spaceship shot. Who ever is hiring the interns need to get some real professionals in there to show the learners just how it should be done. We have seen better CG effects in hoax videos that have been Photoshopped!
The plot of this film is totally backwards and you don’t really know what is going on till almost to the end. When the film starts it is in the middle of the action. There is no warning, no clue what is coming, all we know is that there is a huge “FAKE” ship that is being supper imposed over a live shot of LA. Next we have toy model jet fighters rushing off to intercept by Lipstick Lesbians that make sure the only male pilot dies first. Then if that is not stupid enough they have to prove they have more balls then the pro that just got slaughtered by its own missile. Right, they can get in there and do it when a seasoned pilot can’t.
Now that we totally don’t know what is happening we see what is supposed to be a high tech air base that looks like it was slapped together by illiterate work crews that were used as slave labor and then set them on fire and blew them up. Couldn’t Syfy have used some of the budget on decent locations or were all the land owners too scared to be associated with such a crap infested film. I had more fun making my tuna sandwich then watching this film. If it were not that I was going to review the film, namely because of the name, then I would have turned it off before it was a half hour in.
The only thing that this film had going for it were the actresses. Nia Peeples is cast as Karla, the sword wielding alien killing captain with almost Jedi reflexes. Then there is Theresa June Tao as Solano, the bad ass female pilot that has a stick so far up her butt she could probably chew on it. It is quite possible that she is also a lesbian in the film but who knows. At least these 2 women were great to look at. It is a shame that they were forced to be poor copies of other people. Nia looked like they were trying to make an Angelina Jolie from Sky Captain mixed with Uma Thurman from Kill Bill and then add in Pips from the animated series Clone Wars. Has anyone heard of overkill? She even speaks the aliens language.
If you want to have a snore fest then this will definitely put you to sleep. If you want to watch some great science fiction then find something else to watch since this is going to be a waste of your time.
I give this film a Musing review of
